Grasslands, Timber and Fire. A Symposium
from 14 to 15 October 2009 in Bishopstowe, Pietermaritzburg
The SANBI National Grasslands Programme and the Grassland Society of Southern Africa are proud to host a symposium focusing on improving our understanding of the ecology and management of grasslands, and their related ecosystems, that are associated with timber plantations. A central theme is fire behaviour, fire ecology, and fire management.

Submissions
Platform presentations
This symposium addresses a focused topic, and most platform presentations will be from invited speakers. However, if you would like to make a platform presentation on a topical and pertinent issue, please submit an abstract for consideration by the Organising Committee.

Poster presentations
Poster presentations on issues generally related to the theme of the symposium are welcomed. Please submit abstracts to the Organising Committee for consideration.
Deadline for submissions for poster presentations: extended to 8 October 2009, submissions thereafter will not have their abstracts included in the printed programme
Posters may cover research findings, initial results of larger studies, opinions, project proposals, reports, etc. While it is acceptable to acknowledge sponsors, please note that posters are not a platform to advertise products.
Posters will be displayed for the duration of the symposium.
Posters can be up to 841 mm wide and 1189 mm tall. Adhesive will be provided at the registration desk.
Abstracts
Abstracts must be submitted as MS Word documents. Abstracts for poster or platform presentations should be less than two A4 pages of single-spaced, Times New Roman 12 font text. Abstracts can contain tables and figures and grey-scale pictures of good quality.
